So, who are we kidding? “Black Friday” starts somewhere around Halloween and runs through Thanksgiving weekend…RUNNING OVER Thanksgiving Day like a dead turkey. And, “Cyber Monday” … truth be told…it is ALWAYS “Cyber Monday”, with online holiday sales growing by leaps and bounds. And the same mega corporations are raking in those billions! Then there is Small Business Saturday (and what could be a smaller business than an independent artist?). I guess the millions of people at the malls never got the email!!! And the top ten gifts this year…are electronic gadgets…this year the list even includes 3D printers and drones!!

December is a month of celebration … no matter where you’re from or what you believe…there is something to celebrate. And many of these celebrations are opportunities to give a gift to someone we love. Why not give a gift of ART?

ART is a celebration …a celebration of life…with all its nuances. And yet, I fear that ART…in most all of its forms… will soon be a thing of the past (like the ART of conversation! #OMG LOL BFF).

It’s amazing to think that something that starts as a “spark” in the imagination can become something real, tangible and breathtaking in the hands of an artist. A few bits of clay, some paint, a few scraps of paper, metal, fiber, a handful of beads, a few pieces of glass, a chunk of wood can become something that can evoke strong emotions … different emotions …in each of us.

Spanish Village is San Diego’s premier artist collective…a community of working local artists creating art…year round…right before your eyes. These are award-winning artists with a 70 year tradition of opening their studios to the public, sharing the experience that is the creation of art. With over 200 artists, 37 studios and guilds, the variety (and quality) of the art is STUNNING!!!
